If you’re even slightly clued in to the Texas music scene, Rob Baird is a name you should know well. Originally born in Memphis, Baird relocated to Austin where he began to build his reputation as a no-frills, earnest songwriter and performer.
We sat down for beers and talked about what he’s been up to lately:
What are you watching?
I just saw “Wind River” in theaters. I really love Taylor Sheridan’s work with “Sicario” and “Hell or High Water” and his newest effort did not disappoint. Otherwise, “The Defiant Ones” on HBO and “Ozark” as well as Marc’s Maron’s new stand up “Too Real” on Netflix have been favorites as of late.
What are you listening to?
What are you reading?
What are you drinking?
Topo Chico and really any bubbly water by day and then Tequila and Topo with a lime by night.
What’s your favorite 19th Hole?
Deep Eddy Cabaret is far and away my favorite spot to hang in Austin. If I am going out with friends nine times out of ten we are going to end up at Deep Eddy. A dive bar and a great jukebox is pretty much all I need.
Where to next?
We are doing some shows in Texas and then I head out to Denver and Phoenix. I hope to spend most of December in my hometown of Memphis making my fourth record.
